When will you receive your refund? The answer depends on how you filed your return. The IRS should issue your refund check within six to eight weeks of filing a paper return. If you chose to receive your refund through direct deposit, you should receive it within a week. If you use e-file, your refund should be issued between two and three weeks. You can check on the status of your refund by clicking on the links at the bottom of this page. Amended Return Status Check:A tool on the IRS' website allows taxpayers to check the status of an amended tax return. By providing the taxpayer's social security number, date of birth, and zip code, the "Where's My Amended Return?" tool gives the status of a Form 1040X filed for the current year and up to three prior years. Processing of an amended return is estimated to take up to 12 weeks, but could be delayed by common errors like failure to sign the return or to attach required schedules. Amended returns filed on a Form 1040, business amended returns, and those involving a carryback are among returns not available for status check through the application. Access to the tool is available here. |
